How do I know if I should sign up for the Intermediate or Advanced level camp?

If you are questioning what level camp to attend...it's a tough one to answer without knowing your specific playing however this should help...
The lines between beginner, intermediate, advanced and pro are quite blurry. Imagine being able to play double strokes at 240bpm but not being able to play quarter notes over the samba. You would then have pro hand speed and beginner level independence.

That being said, here are the courses from our website that you can use to test yourself. If the following courses are extremely challenging for you then the intermediate camp would suit you best. If these courses are easy for you then the advanced camps would be best. No matter which camp you choose, our camps are small enough that I can pull things back or push things forward for you and your fellow campers if needed.

Hand Speed: Courses 1- 8
Foot Speed: Courses 1-5
Grooves: Courses 1-10
Fills: Courses 1-10
Independence: Courses 1-2

MikesLessons Drum Camp Info

**All students travel and participate in our camps at their own risk.

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF DRUM CAMP:
$1,499.00
(Does not include travel, food, or lodging)
$400.00 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit is collected at the time of reservation. The remaining balance of $1099.00 is due 60 days prior to your camp arrival date.

WHERE IS DRUM CAMP LOCATED/HOSTED:
Drum camp is held at our studio in Northern California in the city of Folsom, which is about 20 miles east of Sacramento. We are in Old Historic Folsom, which is full of history, great restaurants, shops, and an amazing bike trail along the American River. Each day will be spent primarily at the studio and when on breaks students can go into Old Town to eat, get a treat, shop, or even take a stroll on the trail.

WHERE DO THE STUDENTS LODGE WHILE AT CAMP:
Students stay at the Lake Natoma Inn (www.lakenatomainn.com) which is about 50 feet from our studio, across our parking lot. We have a special rate of $145.15 per night (this rate includes taxes/fees & hot breakfast each morning). Our special hotel rate includes either a single King bedroom or a double Queen bedroom.

WHAT AIRPORT IS BEST TO USE WHEN FLYING TO CAMP:
The Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is the airport to use.

IS A RENTAL CAR NEEDED:
No, unless the student feels they need/want one. All restaurants, shops, our studio, and the hotel are within walking distance of each other. You will need to get a ride from the airport to the hotel on your camp arrival date. You can use either Super Shuttle or Uber for a relatively inexpensive price. The airport is about a 45-minute ride to/from the hotel so book your flights accordingly.

HOW LONG IS EACH CAMP:
Each camp is 5 full days of classes. Students arrive on a Sunday for Orientation and meet and greet. Camp classes run from Monday through Friday and the students depart on Saturday.
We require that everyone attend the Orientation unless your travel has unexpected delays on the day of orientation.

WHAT DO THE DAYS LOOK LIKE DURING CAMP:
Each day begins around 10am and will typically end around 8:30pm.
Breaks for lunch and dinner are given.

ARRIVAL DATE - ORIENTATION:
Orientation is MANDATORY. It will always be on Sunday which is the arrival day of your camp and it is at 6:00pm so please make your travel plans accordingly to make it on time. Class begins on Monday morning.

DEPARTURE DATE:
There are no classes on Saturday so you are free to depart as early as you would like. Keep in mind that check-out from the Inn is at 11am. Plan your ride to the airport knowing that it's about a 45-minute drive from the Inn to the airport.

HOW MANY STUDENTS CAN SIGN UP FOR EACH CAMP:
The limit is 8 students per camp to maximize personal attention and the student's experience.

HOW ARE MEALS HANDLED:
The Lake Natoma Inn provides a cold continental breakfast each morning for those staying there. There are about 15 restaurants in Old Historic Folsom to choose from for lunch and dinner. The types of foods and restaurants you'll find are cafes/bakeries, sandwiches, burgers, Chinese, Mexican, etc. No fast food within walking distance. Each meal will be between $20-25 so please plan accordingly. The group will go out to meals together but is not mandatory.

AGE REQUIREMENT:
The minimum age for our drum camps is 16 years old. We have had a very broad range of ages at each camp, anywhere from 16 to over 60 years of age. If you are under the age of 18, you are required to have your legal guardian travel with you and stay at the hotel with you.
