Drumming Experience
Started playing the drum kit in Jr. High jazz band then through high school. Got to college and sold out....literally sold my kit so I could go on Spring break.
Then life happened. Got a job, married, kids, more kids and never picked up the sticks again. Then, my pastor asked if I could help out with our band at church because they needed another drummer. So I've been knocking the rust off for the last year and a half and having a blast.
Favorite Drummers
Besides M. Johnston? B-wack from David Crowder Band, Johnny Rabb, Kenny Aronoff, Stewart Copeland, ?estlove, Benny Greb, and many more.

Hey Bro
May 11, 2010 - 09:12 PMLearned so much, the more I think about everything the more lessons I realize I learned. I have to say though that the main thing I took from the camp is that there's no shortcuts. If you wanna be better you need more than just the information, you've gotta work hard at it.

Mar 24, 2010 - 02:56 PMHey man, thanks for the welcome. I love the community and the lessons. And the snare is a PDP SX series I believe with a evans power center and the puresound wires on the bottom. I really like it! I want the EQ Snare by DW though, that one is amazing.

Nice Kit
Feb 08, 2010 - 01:01 PMDarren, Thanks for the welcome, love you kit. I play choir and orchestra at church and my wife is the director. It's a pretty good mix of traditional hymns and some upbeat gospel/latin etc. It keeps me busy and I just want to be more confident on the set without losing my musicallity. I wasn't expecting the whole community thing but I think I like it.

Jan 19, 2010 - 07:28 AMHey Darren, thanks for the welcome. I will put up a picture of my kit in the next few weeks, but it's a pretty terrible kit. The kit I play at church is a DW, not sure what exactly though. I may also put up a video, see you around.

Bearing edges
Jan 17, 2010 - 03:26 PMI noticed that on my kit, the edges aren't perfect, specially where the finish molds together. do you have any advice on how i should even it up a bit? what grit sand paper i should use and such?

What's up Darren!
Jan 13, 2010 - 06:40 PMWell for one thing, my drums aren't as awesome as the one in that picture up there. I got rid of the 8" tom and the second rack tom and the second floor tom. all i have left is my ride, hats splashes and the smaller crash. looking to upgrade the shells. maybe you can recommend something from a custom shop? Now how about you tell me about that kit you have? see you in the chat rooms!

Illini
Jan 03, 2010 - 03:27 PMDarren, Yes I'm an Illini, as my house is loaded with Illini stuff that my wife hates. I was out in '83. My band's name was "Contraband". Played a lot of the Greek system back then when they could have kegs. Allowed us to make some cool cash and have fun. Only make it back now for a few FB/BB games and to interview graduates for jobs. Best Regards and talk to you in the chat room sometime, donko

Great kit!
Jan 02, 2010 - 08:54 PMHey Darren, Your story sounds a lot like mine. Used to play a lot at Kam's and Dooley's in Champaign in the early 80's - then life happened. Lucky to have found Mike's Lessons to start the fire again. Best Regards, donko

Nov 13, 2009 - 10:54 AMHey Darren, first of all great job of greeting new people on the site man. I know when I got that first greeting I couldn't beleive it. It made me feel great. Now to my question, your kit is sick man I love it. How in the world do you go about making your own custom drum company? Is that what you do for a living or is it just a hobbie?

Oct 15, 2009 - 07:00 AMThe Saludas are great. Saluda's can have a very unique look, a really good price tag and you can get them to sound just the way you want. I asked for a versatile set of 13" hats, bright medium thin 17" Crash and a Ride that would be a comination jazz ride and Rock crash, similar to a Zildjian K. They came to me exactly the way I wanted them, I've had them for 6 months and I'm still impressed. Pretty much, Saluda can get you whatever you want at a better price than the Major brands. That's my sales pitch, lol. peace bro, AlexTheLoneGunman
