Re: Jazz
Oct 04, 2009 - 04:46 PMThanks for the kind words on my video. I definitely have been practicing a ton and listening to great drummers. Check out anything Louie Armstrong, if you have netflix grab the Steve Smith jazz dvds (Standing on the shoulders of Giants). Just listen to all the old greats, louie bellson, elvin jones, art blakey, (any coltrane or chick corea album), Krupa, Buddy Rick. The key is to not just listen while doing something else if you seriously want to mimic these guys. You must really focus and devote time to listen (With greb as one of your fav drummers, you know he's said that time and again!) Thanks again for the kind words. -Steve

Sep 22, 2009 - 11:01 AMI record then sync afterwords. However, you can go right to the video camera from the presonus firestudio. Your choice. I like to do it afterwards cause I can edit each trac (mic) and adjust each drum separately. Loads of fun

Sep 21, 2009 - 04:46 AMHey Bret I use Audix D series mics and a presonus firestudio project to get it all in my mac. Then mix with Apples Logic Express 8 Or garage band. Works awesome. Yes, I need to post another soon

Sep 13, 2009 - 08:49 AMHOLY CRAP BRET! That was flawless playing in your new Latin video bro. I was actually saying to Amber when we were watching the Mambo part "It's really good but it needs to be a bit faster" and then boom! Ya kicked it up to a perfect tempo. Great Job Bret!

Hey, thanks Bret !!! I kept making adjustments on my kit until I felt comfortable. The biggest thing was my hi hat was always too high and my arm was up in the air. I never noticed until I started making videos of myself and then it was easy to fix. Anyway, the other 2 ladies will appreciate the comments on our video. How long have you been playing? You will be advanced before you know it at the rate you are going. Your kit is awesome too.
